...you can't seriously expect them not to choose and promote certain mascots? There are an enormous number of Pokemon, and they do need to make some particularly familiar to the public for marketing purposes. You may not like that they're choosing ones who aren't your personal favorites, but they do have to choose, and it's almost certain that their choices have been focus-tested to hell and back and are genuinely the best for business.

Yoshi's Wolly World and Super Mario Maker Pokemon-related amiibo compatibility are thinfs that I don't understand. I mean, both are games that have compatibility for almost all Nintendo series and some third parties, why exclude their own franchise of a game that has almost all franchises of a company? No, the concept behind The Pokemon Company is sound. In the earliest days of the franchise, particularly in the US, Nintendo outsourced Pokemon all over the place. That led to a lot of bullshit like Wizards of the Coast changing the rules of the tcg in the US and making world championships impossible, 4kids getting ALL of the money from the Pokemon anime, and making some Japanese merchandise impossible to bring stateside because merchandise rights were all over the place.

Japan had some similar issues over the years. The Pokemon Company came into existence to unify all of the Pokemon-related shit under one umbrella so that Nintendo/Gamefreak themselves didn't have to either directly okay everything or license things out.
