Why have we been forced to suffer with 4-5 man teams and gimped bird pokemon for so long when adventuring, /vp/? Why can't my godly machamp push a pansy ass boulder or my giant bird beast fly me around unless they have a move for it?

They're barely relevant anymore. Did you need any HM besides Surf to beat X/Y? I don't recall Cut or Waterfall being necessary to beat the game, just get optional items.

Not to mention that Flash isn't even an HM anymore.

You need them to 100% the game. Sure I didn't need to use HM's as often to progress through the story, instead I got to miss out on nearly all the loot along the way and be forced to backtrack and chase it all down with a bunch of HM slaves in tow. I'm pretty sure pretty important items like leftovers are behind an HM wall in X/Y, even.

Then make all medium+ water types surfable, all medium+ birds flyable, etc, and we're golden. If you want to prevent people from doing things early have a NPC still teach us how to do the action, but then once you know all your pokemon can do it without a move forever.
