Anything in Gen I cant be forgotten by anyone who's been playing pokemon for the last 20 fucking years. Honestly I have no issues with pokemon up to gen III. After that it gets kinda hard to remember which generation shit belongs to.

Abilities in Gen3 and Phys/Spec split in Gen4 changed everything, and while new fresh mons of Gen 3 had a lot of strong contenders and interesting types, Gen2 pokes simply couldnt compete (except of course your cross evos of Gen 1 and later evos, which are all specifically improved from their original)
Basically, Gen 2 is just an expansion of Gen1 right before competitive play was even remotely considered.

I wish that GF would use pokemon like these as early route mons for once. seel would be great early game, but pokemon like these never see the light of day because theyre either late game catches or postgame altogether. by that time you already have a pokemon of the same type

BW2 did it right when they had early game unorthodox choices like magby, magnemite, elekid, sunkern and koffing.

This is 100% the reason why Johto was always worst region; you can't even catch Houndour and Murkrow in Johto, Larvitar and Sneasel are only available at Mount Silver, Phanpy, Teddiursa and Skarmory are all 8th gym territory
I'm surprised more people don't like/remember Jumpluff; its the only Johto grass type besides Meganium
