>>24749816>>24749822>>24749878For reference, Explorers did indeed have a Teddi that evolved into an Ursa, and both Ursas joked about it. It's most likely just a gameplay gag, though - given you can nickname Pokemon and so on, it's likely that Pokemon do give themselves names, it's just not shown in-game for, well, reasons the third anon stated above.
I wouldn't be quite as harsh about it as the third anon, but I do agree that Chunsoft probably isn't allowed to give any of the Pokemon specific names or anything, since Gamefreak is indeed very strict about how the franchise is handled and portrayed. I do think it's respectable that GF is so dead-set on keeping the series consistent, but there's no denying that they do keep it extremely sterile in the process. It could be argued that just as the main series gameplay feels stagnant to some people, the way the franchise is portrayed is also stagnating to some people as well.
It's obviously a reason why people are so fond of PMD, given it portrays a completely different setting, mood, tone and atmosphere than the main series, offering a refreshing change, but I do have to say that I feel like Super kind of feels stuck in the middle this time around. People have complained about the writing and the fanservice cameos and all that stuff, but to me, Super doesn't really feel that much like a Pokemon world, or a PMD world or anything. It makes me wonder how long either company will be able to keep things up.
