As much as I hate the current dub, I kinda feel bad for a lot of the TPCi actors. They're tasked with acting realistically with Carter Cathcart's genuinely awful scripts, are probably paid crummy rates (anime dubs are among the worst-paying VO gigs), and were hired on their ability to voice match people who were frankly better choices for the characters (and who shouldn't have been fired in the first place).
Pretty sad they supposedly blacklisted Veronica Taylor and Eric Stuart, especially considering their own scriptwriter jumped online to stroke his own cock for his James performance, leak information about the new dub, and spread inaccuracies about the original VA's contractual obligations.
FWIW it's good to watch after a couple of beers and some friends. Showed the dub to some friends who grew up with the original and they were shocked at the lack of quality.
On another note, interesting story about that. I'm a teacher. I've had a few Pokemon fans in my classes. Sometimes when I chat with them before class, my kids essentially grew up with the current cast, but have seen the old dub, as well.
I've asked at least five kids what voice cast they prefer. Every single one of them preferred the 4Kids one. These kids' first experience with Pokemon was with the current cast. Even the newer generation can see the quality of the work that was before their time eclipses that of today's dub.
