That said, most of these overcomplications and labels you mention are pretty fucking sad if you think about it from that angle. Half of them just scream "I don't want to fuck everything I see on sight like a 'real man'/'empowered woman' " and the other half are "I think I'm bisexual but people would believe me more if I kicked and squirmed my way into a gay/straight label"

They're just over complicating things since it's one of the few, if not only components to their identity. Sexual orientations are useful as a basic summary of who you're attracted to, but you don't really need label what you're into be to hyper specific. Just like what you like and use a label if you want to find other people like you.
