And Monster Rancher has always had its appeal in the raising of the monster more than just the battle. The battle's a little dull, but not obtuse. Again though, navigating the simulator's stats, temperament and habits was what always got me into it. Finding a working schedule, managing the crunch between age lapse while also pushing that sweet spot as wide as possible, then fusing things to pass down like traits and watching the offspring outperform the parents at half the age. It had a real sense of progress to it. I really just wish they'd revamp the interface while keeping the stats. It's series like Monster Rancher and Princess Maker that really made the most of that limited resource game dev scene at the time, but I'd love to see them update a little, rather than just recalibrating graphics. Not that it matters, both franchises are prettymuch dead for good at this point.
