Swear most the 4th gen evolution for old mons were forced and/or bland. Possibly the reason why GF is too afraid of touching the concept again except when they introduced Sylveon. Hope that isn't the case though and they try again in a future gen.

I have no idea why people keep saying this. The 4th gen evos were one of my favorite things about the gen, Rhyperior's the only one who might be less-cool than the pre-evo, and it's still a cool design regardless.

There's a long list of reasons it's objectively bad, and it's subjectively ugly to boot. I'm not going to trot them all out but basically it abandons the theme the line had been building towards and makes no morphological sense, even for a Pokemon.

Everyone was mad when it was revealed because it was on 4 legs, and thus wasn't the sugoii kawaii samurai-san Pokemon that the weebs were hoping for. Disregarding that it can stand on two legs and sheathes its swords in its arm armor.

The worst things about it are the massive head + weird neck and the tiny pencil back legs. If it had some more hair covering its front and looked like it were actually capable of standing (like Swampert) it would be a lot better.

I disliked that evolution to start, until I was in a "What Pokemon would you explore the Pokemon world with" thread.

Maybe the better question is why did they start going cave-croc in the first place? There's nothing cave-like about Totodile or Feraligatr so why Croconaw? I'm not hating on it. Actually I think the cave-croc thing fits Croconaw. It just feels out of place how they started that with the middle evo then dropped it. I can't imagine how it would've looked good on Feraligatr so maybe it's better they did drop it.

Their japanese names are Waninoko (wani = crocodile OR alligator), Arigeitsu (sounds like alligator) and Oodairu (dairu = dile), so it's crocodile-alligator-crocodile, it's different than english, but who gives a fuck, it's just fucking names.

Also I find it interesting that Mewtwos Megas are reflective of his role as a clone.

Either he evolves further becoming a streamlined, stronger version of himself, or he evolves to look much closer to his genetic forebear.

Them being actual shells is just a pretense.
The armor and weapons Oshawott, Dewott and Samurott have are part of the pokemon, not just tools the pokemon utilize.
They are an extension of their bodies, quite literally, with how they detach and reattach from their bodies and change size autonomously in Samurott's case.
