Pikachu's the "cute" mascot. Lucario and Charizard are the "cool" mascots. Mewtwo and Charizard are the "OG" mascots. I don't think this is news to anyone, OP. There's a biweekly thread bitching about Lucario's supposed "forced popularity" so it must be common knowledge.

Greninja gets a lot of coverage right now, but time will tell if he's got the appeal to be evergreen. This isn't the first time they pushed a Water type hard, a lot of people forget that Piplup was forced as fuck during gen 4 and never caught on.

They aren't forcing it. Lucario gets more exposure because he's popular, not the other way around.

Featuring him in a movie ahead of Gen 4 is probably the only time they ever "shilled" Lucario.

It's basic marketing sense. Something that's hip or popular will most likely catch consumers' eyes or interests.

Know why Geno didn't end up getting in any smash title? Nobody knows who he is outside of people who tried to make him a forced meme.

Jigglypuff has been all but forgotten by everything except Smash. She barely gets any cards or merchandise, and on all the soundtracks, Meloetta has taken over for music. The only bone she's been thrown in years since Smash is fairy typing.
