I want to give a pokémon game to my nephew for christmas (the family is pitching in to get him a 3ds). I'm leaning towards soul silver, but I wanted to reach out in case any of you had sibs. Any advice?

his friends might be playing it so he can play together/battle/trade
also is easier if he's too young

then X or Y are more beginner friendly

Y is a safer bet "for a boy" unless his favorite color is blue, then get X

SS is my favorite so far but I think he might not enjoy it for being slower/ none of his friends have it to play together/ no wifi / don't have all pokemon shown on the tv

HG/SS would be much too hard if he's a newb. Get him one of the gen VI games, more beginner friendly.
