Coming back to Pokemon after I quit before Black / White. I went out and bought both X and Omega Ruby, but I don't know which one to start with. I want to get into competitive so would it make sense to start with X?

You could use X to get the new pokes (and Garchomp/Lucario megastones) more easily, and then omega for competitive because new megas/movesets.

Yeah I was thinking X for the vast amount of Pokemon and then breed some for OR. Then use OR for easy breeding.

no
ORAS has some exclusive Megas and attacks (the attacks however are limited to the weather trio), that cant be used with XY games
+ ORAS has move tutors
