As for charizard, I didn't care for it since day one. Genwunner pandering aside, it's just a fat, orange dragon. It really confused me that all of these kids were going crazy over this beer-bellied lizard when they could have a turtle with cannons coming out of its shell (which is what I chose when I first played Blue) or venusaur (I can't think of a particularly good description for it, but I still like it better than charizard as well). I figure that it's just popular because of the gen 1 anime, since poor blastoise and venusaur are barely ever mentioned, but charizard is like the star of the show at many points (at least when pikachu isn't). Mega evolution worsened my opinion of it, since it was the only one to get two besides a legendary pokemon.
