I got Blue just cause it was my favourite colour back then, though now I just pick whatever game has a nicer legendary
The first versions always seem more popular though, eg. Red for RBY, OR for ORAS, X for XY.

I got Blue and my brother got Yellow. Neither of us had Red version. We were oaky with that, though, because I like turtles better than Dragons and my brother loved the anime.

My first experience with pokemon was Blue at a friend's house. Ended up getting Red for having good grades all semester, then got Blue as a Christmas present. The only problem was I had a Super Gameboy and couldn't trade but his based grandpa gave me his own original Gameboy so we could battle and trade

But after that each next version (aside from gen V) I chose was from blue pallette.

I went with: Red, Silver, Ruby, Pearl, Black, Y
Silver was of my own volition; I thought Lugia was cooler than Ho-oh
Pearl I had no choice in really, since both my brother and cousin got Diamond first

I started with Blue as well, for one I like the color blue more and all my friends got red first so it worked out better. then, Yellow Silver Sapphire Ruby Pearl, Heart Gold, Black, X (went back for Black 2 and Crystal), Alpha Sapphire.
