Not massively.
The special episodes are worth playing though. If you have an emulator or a flashcart then grab the game and a completed save to experience those. Otherwise it's not essential.

Special episodes are fun. I'm told you can download save files that have already beaten the game so that you can just do the special episodes

It feels like the Alliance system is the equivalent of the Pairup system in Fire Emblem in making battles just too easy because you can now launch superpowered attacks turn after turn with no downside except muh hunger.

I'm making the second draft now and am probably using how late it is to justify said blogposting. Having someone on missions is bullshit. They're always weak and you can't finish their mission unless you have a revive seed and stop them from fainting. A lot of the missions are like this and I don't even know how to skip them. It's not worth it.

I wish Zap Cannon wasn't the only ranged move for electric types. Why did they make Shockwave a surrounding AoE move? Electric types already had Thunderbolt for that, plus for the few pokemon that get it, Parabolic Charge is hilariously good.

That IS a room hitting move, I think each type has one and I know for a fact Ampharos could learn it. I'll sometimes use an Ampharos, Manectric, "Cleric" team for this reason. Manectric uses Electric Terrain, then they both go at it with Discharge spam. Cleric's there for healing/buffing.

Not that guy, but I was in my early/mid twenty's when I finished the epilogue and didn't have any trouble. As long as you actually use the items the game gives you and take a few reviver seeds it isn't really hard.

Emeras are total luck, most of the time I only find ones that prevent poison or whatever.

I actually never tried it, but I do know Encourage Seed or Better Odds + Rollout is pretty damn good on bosses that are weak to Rock since it keeps going until it misses up to 5 hits. Both make attacks have perfect accuracy.

Its not so much time, but overall tedium. Being challenged in an engaging but more time consuming way is more enjoyable than a slightly shorter but much more repetitive way. SMD made me think my moves through especially later in the game while Sky felt like I was using the same move over and over again most of the game. The shorter dungeons made failing more forgiving as you could save more often and made the enemies you had to face more diverse; it removed annoying artificial difficulty and replaced it with actual challenge.

Guess I'd rather have tedium than stress. It gets tiresome when every normal enemy takes like six hits, and it's draining to have to so deeply consider the consequences of every single move. I'd rather save that for bosses and monster houses.

Also, Sky only took half your items upon death so resets weren't always necessary.

So I have 717/720 and no expedition requests left. Not even sure what I'm missing besides Arceus.

That's kinda bullshit. Pokemon hang onto items when they faint, don't know why the same isn't true when the items are stolen.
