Skipping ahead for a little bit, we find our fearsome foursome enjoying a much less hectic, meandering drive through the English countryside. Now out of the big city and with food in their stomachs, terrible as that food may have been, the ride seemed much more pleasant. Winding over hill and under hill, across ancient stone bridge and alongside recently-lain train tracks.

Archer was hesitant to say anything. The car and countryside alike were pleasantly silent, and it seemed ill mannered of him to break that silence.

Just up ahead, maybe only a hundred meters away, rose the vague silhouette of the border splitting Alphea off from the rest of the UK. "Everyone, get your passports out" said the bluenette, at last breaking the silence. "We're almost to the border."

Being that the border was divided by nothing more than invisible lines drawn many ages ago, the rolling hills and dipping valleys of the Alphean countryside were unchanged from their English counterparts. The winding, serpentine rivers still the same sparkling shade of blue, the sparse houses made of the same stones from the same quarries, and the trains that occasionally rumbled though were the same as those they had seen rumbling though in England.

The sun was just beginning to duck beyond the fringes of the highest peaks off in the distance, casting a fiery orange glow across the greens and browns of the lush and quiet countryside. And looming in the distance, high off on some distant peak, was the faint outline of a castle.

"That's the old royal castle. If we're going to have any hope of finding the treasure, that's probably going to be our first stop."

Suddenly, there was a horrible kick and a loud BANG. The car slowed to a crawl, before sputtering out and coming to a complete stop. The silence in the car at that moment was deafening.

"Well, that's not good."

Proton wasn't really shocked at how lax the th3 border was, granted his papers were always good enough to get him through anything, but even if they weren't, he never had much issue when it came to smuggling stuff. Ariana looked back at the guard station just before it could disappear from sight completely. She remarked, "I'm glad that worked. It'd have been a pain to get into a fight this early."

The castle coming up to replace it on the horizon drew her eyes, it likely did for everyone else who came to this part of the country as well. It was an imposing looking building, grand and regale in a kind of way that modern architects just couldn't capture anymore. The idea of skulking around within it was as daunting as it was exciting.

"Well it'll sure be a sight to see, even if we don't find any leads. Is it a tourist attraction these days, or does the new government run out of it, too?" The redhead asked Archer. Pending on what function it served, their job could be easier or harder.

And of course, when things had began to look up, fate had to deal out a low kick of its own. She looked straight forward with a blank look during the car's hacking, laborious demise.

A thick black cloud of smoke billowed forth, obscuring the bluenette's vision. Fanning away the thick smoke, the young man propped the hood up and tried to get a bead on what exactly had gone wrong.

Obscured by the smoke and the hood, the trio still in the car were blind to Archer's actions as he puzzled out how to make their hunk of junk operable again. "Though deposed, the former royal family continued living in the castle up until about seven years ago, when it mysteriously went up in flames. Some say the entire family died that night, while others claim that the youngest daughter made it out alive. Either way, the castle is just a burnt-out husk now, but it's still our best bet if we want to find the treasure."

"Alright, Magneton, right here aught to do it." Electricity flashed and crackled from the trio of magnets, to which the vehicle responded with a satisfied rumbling. "Okay, I think we're good... Mostly" he said, closing the hood.

"That should last us until we make it to the castle" he said, sliding back into his seat. "Fortunately, it's a straight shot up this road, and with any luck we'll be there by nightfall."

Kid, the point of spamming an image is to get the thread to hit the image limit so no one else can post any images. That forced the RPers to make a new thread back when 99% of the posts had avatarfagging. Bombing porn threads uses the same concept.

But enough with that mushy rom-com stuff. Let's get our minds on track thinking about the castle. Big empty halls, lots of potential trapdoors and secret passages, everything that wasn't destroyed by the fire, theirs for the taking. Coins, jewels, rare tapestries possibly hidden where the conflagration could not touch. Anything incapable of burning, anything they could fit in their vehicle, it could potentially be theirs to claim. And more undoubtedly lay on top of that. For the real prize was not the dregs of a burned castle, but the secret treasure whose location they would no doubt uncover within.

Now here, this is where we begin to find ourselves in a bit of a pickle. While the team could chance that the shitbox would make it all the way to the castle safely, should it break they would potentially have a difficult time acquiring repair parts, and an abandoned vehicle lying in the middle of the abandoned castle grounds could draw more attention than necessary.

On the other hand, if they pulled into an inn and stayed the night in town, their traveling band would look more 'normal', and would potentially enable them to acquire repair parts in the morning. However, Archer's thinking was in-line with Ariana's, in that leaving their car somewhere in town would make them stand out.

Archer was silent, as he mulled over his options with a mouth full of ground mystery meat and melted 'cheese' product. The taste was terrible, which was to be expected. Seriously, how could Petrel stand this filth? Was his sense of taste so congested with tobacco that he could no longer tell the difference between actual food and this garbage?

It wasn't actually for health reasons that Archer disdained fast food. He drank, and on occasion he would bum a smoke from Petrel, so he wasn't exactly a paragon of health. No, he just hated the taste. The 'beef' tasted nothing like beef, and the 'cheese' tasted nothing like cheese.

Tensions were rising in the cramped car, and some course of action was required. Deciding to chance staying the night in town, he slowed the vehicle to a crawl. Swallowing his meal with a grimace, he at last spoke up "Help me look for a place to stay. It'll be easier for us to try getting repairs done if we're closer to civilization than if we're off in the middle of nowhere."

Was his the right call? With sleep, and a bit of luck, time would hopefully tell.
