Things like the turn based nonsense and the strict implementation of type match ups leading to shit like ground moves such as Bone Rush, Mud Bomb and Boomerang not being able to damage to flying types, whilst throwing rocks at them does cause damage, makes no sense.
The anime for all it's faults at least shines battles in a more realistic light.
