If they keep the same rate of new fully evolved pokémon per generation and the rate of new mega evolutions introduced per new game, that's only going to happen in generation 16 or 17, almost 40 years from now.

I don't think anyone should worry about that.

Then we go beyond mega evolution:
Ultimate evolution, the pokemon reaches it's upmost potential.

After that we get Fusion, now this is where it gets tricky. Because they can capitalize on the BOND between trainer and pokemon to fuse them, but that may just ruin the series.
Or they could take the safe route and just fuse pokemon with pokemon.

I honestly think that the mega gimmick is only gonna last so long. They'll introduce a few more for existing mons over the next couple of generations until it tapers off to just giving megas to new mons that were introduced that gen (or last depending on the pattern), and they'll basically just be treated like any other held item. You can choose to run a scarfed Heracross or a Mega. Toxic Orb Gliscor or Mega, yadda yadda. Just a general power boost and ability change or you can use a different strategy that might be just as useful or powerful. The gimmick can only go so long before it gets tired, and they *will* run out of pokemon to give megas.

More variants of evolution.

We have Primal already. And Megas version X and Y.
So you can expect pokémon having more than two megas, megas and primals, Ultra evolution, Master evolution, cyber evolution, etc
Basically more branches, like Digimon

Nah Flygon was at least tried to be given a Mega but they weren't satisfied with it so they dropped, but he likely will get one in the next gen.

Raichu however is GF's biggest regret and will continue to be shit on because they can't simply erase it from existence. With the recent stronger pander to the Ashnime, his future looks even darker.

That's not Pichu.

No, really. It had marketing focus once since Gen 2 and then it was never acknowledged again. Plus in retrospect attempting to make a cuter version of a Pokemon that's already plenty cute, as well as an earliergame version of a Pokemon that's already earlygame as is, was completely pointless.
