What are the exact rules of a Pokémon match?

I take 'not killing' is one of them, but how much physical harm is acceptable?

Attacking the imposing trainer but i dont see how that rule will stop teams like team rocket & plasma from doing such things then again in some games the poke does attack some people like lance did in hg/ss & g/s/c it also happens all the time in the manga. I guess it all goea down to each persons code that they go by.

I dont think no killing and no crippling are rules at all
its the trainers responsibility to withdraw when their pokemon is hurt too badly to continue. they throw in the towel when their monster goes down

we see it in origins, when charmander was getting its shit chomped red withdrew it to protect it even though it was still conscious and stuff.
I would say withdrawing your pokemon to protect it from an attack counts as a forfeit of that pokemon

Regardless, judging from the anime you can pretty much do what you want with no regards to the other trainer's pokemon so long as it's not knocked out.
