>>25013549I really hate this sentiment. It's not because turn based is inherently less fun, turn based is still alive and works well in /tg/ like chess and P&P RPGs which inspired the first /v/ RPGs
(and if they kept copying p&p instead of trying to reinventing the wheel with shittier mechanics and features they'd make good RPGs too. For a good example of this see dialogue wheels vs dialogue in Fallout 1.) It's that turn based in video games stagnated instead of trying to make the most out of it and making it fun or fresh again. Said P&P games calculate with dice but their combat still has more going on it than your typical 6 gorillion menu navigating just to pick the strongest attacks grindfest piece of JRPG shit.
To summarize
>no one streamlines them or adds upon them, but they don't need to because their audience are people who specifically seek it out, warts and all>giving them depth makes them hard and hard games are a niche marketAlso a dying genre isn't always the best indicator of quality. Arena shooters are a step up from FPS games like CoD but CoD still sells better.
