Pokemon:
+Evolution had a sense of permanency and they all had a visual consistency that made them like stages of maturation
-The anime had very little story and was 90% filler, this has always been the case
-PIKA PI, CHAR
Digimon:
+Digimon had more than two extra steps in evolution and the higher forms had cooler and more complex designs
+The anime was the first time I ever watched a cartoon with a story arc and actually stakes (get back home, save the world)
+Digimon in the anime weren't pets, they could actually talk to their partners and were more like friends with superpowers
-When it came to the anime the forms seemed to have a much looser theme tying them together. Why did a plant evolve into a bird and why did a cactus evolve into a little girl?
-Digimon could turn back into weaker/shittier forms any time either because the invisible timer on the form ran out or because they got the stuffing knocked out of them
