Why does everyone always complain about the bugs in gen 1? I thought some of the best bugs were from gen 1.

Pic relate, it's a great bug, I don't see the issue.

Bugs had a hard life. It took them until Gen 4 to get a good move with decent distribution.

If the movepools that exist today were around back then, list people would have ran a few more of them.

Also, many of them had/have shit stats. So then in the RBY times you pretty much knew that butterfree, had to be swapped for something useful.

Shame, I love butterfree and beedril.

It wasn't even only bugs. Ghosts had it bad too. Only move that didn't have fixed damage was Lick, which has the same power as Scratch when doing super effective damage, and didn't even work against the type it was supposed to be super effective against. And it was a physical type in a time of Special-oriented ghost types.

Gen I was just shit in general.
