>>25117694I'm still surprised how badly gamefreak dropped the ball when it came to gen 6 "Rivals"
>Gen 1Your actual rival constantly pushes you to be stronger by gloating at how much better he is than you. Pushing both of you to become the first and second strongest trainers
>Gen 2Dark kid tries to over train his pokemon into a team of champions but eventually learns emotional distance isn't the answer
>Gen 3Professors kid helps you along the way and learns that he is more suited to follow his father's foot steps instead of being a trainer and The sick kid grows strong and confident through battling
(second weakest characterization, but still miles ahead of XY, especially in the remakes)
>Gen 4Spaz is the only reason your on this journey, and is constantly battling you to test their skills Mellows out as he realizes he needs to actually plan his attacks instead of rushing around wildly
>Gen 5Your two friends are going on this journey with you to better and change themselves, sometimes defying family expectations and questioning their whole purpose as trainers to determine their path in life
>BW2Kid sets out to avenge his sister's dead pokemon and will stop at nothing to Cleanse the earth of the criminal plasma scum
>Gen 6Some kids you just met battle you sometimes and everyone is best friends 4 eva and the brown one wants the D
I thought gamefreak took steps forward in gen 5, but then they took a huge step backwards into dog shit with Gen 6
