When a story is "deep" it is layered and complex, and its themes provoke thought in the player. Dark Souls is not this. The story and themes of Dark Souls, all the Souls games, are rather simple. Dark Souls just doesn't shit the exposition out at you. "Not explaining everything" so you have to make up fanwank to fill in the blanks isn't deep, it simply means not everything was explained. Not everything is explained in Harry Potter too, is Harry Potter deep?
The reason Souls games are so big is because games have become more and more like movies, guiding you through the experience. Souls games don't do that, you are more "active" in it, even if it means just shitting out fanwank. Stupid people mistake this as the games being "deep" and "hardcore." In reality From Software has been doing this shit since King's Quest and Armored Core with their item description lore and barebones storytelling. It was not deep until it wowed sheltered shitters like you.
