(1st story)
When I got Y when it came out, as a joke I chose french for the language. I figured I might try to play through the game in french since the region was based on France. Plus, I kinda thought whatever the story was, I probably wouldn't really care for it. From the start, I was already having some trouble knowing what was what. Although I could guess what a lot of attacks were (for example) I then realized that if the game ever sent me on a fetch quest or so, I would have no idea what I was supposed to do/where to go. Because of that, I figured I would just restart the game then and play in english. Then I got to the first patch of grass, and the very first pokemon I encountered was a shiny zigzagoon. I know (now) that Y has a higher shiny appearance rate, but still. It was my first ever actual shiny pokemon, and I took it as a sign to finish the game in French. My friends even offered for me to trade the zigzagoon to them so I could restart and they'd just trade back, but I stuck with it anyway.
