I think it's pretty cute, but it's kind of a perfect storm of bad pokemon.

1. Rare
2. Bad stats
3. Bad movepool
4. Shares typing with a far more useful pokemon (Tentacruel)
5. Boring abilities
6. No mega/doesn't evolve
7. Only even in, like, two games pre-E4

It's a colony-like pokemon just like the portuguese man-o-war; different functions for each member. And they can pull it off to appear like a humanoid creature. Definitely more interesting than most "multiples of basic form". Looking at you, dugtrio and klinklang

it's one of those pokemon that you constantly see fanmade evolutions of. they always look wrong, and it's because the dopey concept utilities simplicity for full effect. you can't improve on a ball with eyes without registering the facility with which pokemon designers imagine evolutions. this means that if something looks comically shit, that is the end of its role. contrast it with trapinch, which, though cute and harmless, suggests a powerful progeny and unrealised potential. generation 1 is full of violations - muk, for instance, is just bigger grimer.

I think Quilfish, along with Corsola, Mantine, Remoraid and Octillery are supposed to represent a WW2 weaponry kind of deal. Which make them all unique in a way.

This guy is legit in my top 3, no joke. Lived in a third world country all my life and with no poke merchandise except the games. All I wanted as a kid was some of those little Tomy action figures but none were sold here. Someone must have accidentally imported it or something but one day I saw a Qwilfish mini figure on the shelves and quickly got it. Used it in Crystal I was playing through at the time. To this day it remains the only non game poke merchandise I own
