/vp/ and fans in general are in a maelstrom of hate over the legibility of the starter evo leaks. You've probably seen the image where anons went full detective mode and started were using forensic analysis on corocoro scans. Serebii's adamant support of the "fake" evos leads to SEREBII CONFIRMED as an ironic meme.
Partners in crime, the Spaniards Melkor and Hiro(aka no es fake guy, this is where he first got his credibility) of the site Pokexperto have used their connections with Nintendo to get beta copies of BW.
The two steadily leak Pokemon, either with crude fanart, simple descriptions, or sprite screen shots. Drawn Pokemon include Ferroseed and the ice cream, descriptions include Genesect, and a shot of Emboar adds fuel to the starter shitstorm.
Other speculation abounds with such wild claims as N being an angel, him turning into Ghetsis, Bianca being champion, and the end-of-dex slot being an uncatchable Pokemon called Seraphii or something like that.
/vp/ is personally trolled by a tripfag "leaker" named Hajime who strokes all of the board's wishes, only to burn them and claim it's a lesson about hype or something like that. It's been more than half a decade; my memory's not perfect.
Release day approaches. Serebii is caught with his hand in the cookie jar by reporting an anti-piracy defense as a gameplay mechanic. Melkor and Hiro go off the rails and dump screenshots of all Pokemon, their types, and their abilities on their site.
Nintendo catches wind of all this and goes ballistic. Pokexperto is gutted, Pokebeach is forced to replace all of its images with Ditto and become Pokerbeach, and Serebii is put on a very short leash. One man in Japan is arrested. Things eventually go back to normal as Nintendo calms down, but to this day Serebii is skittish about posting leaks.
