Same for me. Learned a LOT of spelling via Pokemon. One of my friends one a middle school spelling bee because his Raichu card had the word "induction" on it, and surprisingly enough, it was his word.

Actually, to the opposite Pokémon made me realize that my friends couldn't fucking read.

Ponyta became "PONTY-YAY", and that's one of the less severe examples. They fucked up so many things like that and wouldn't admit they were wrong until the specific Pokémon appeared in the show.

Son, that's nothing, I remember this one kid who ardently pronounced misdrevous as "mes-de-EL-ver-ver-ros". He didn't even care when people corrected him, he just claimed that that was the 'real' pronunciation.

I don't have a picture with me anymore, but I remember when one of my local kids magazines announced a competition for designing a new Pokemon. I drew a fourth member of the bird trio, a Rock/Flying type one. My asshat of a friend drew Cyndaquil and when I asked him why does he want to submit a Pokemon which already exists he said "in this country nobody (lol) knows it exists yet (G/S wasnt officially out yet)". Too bad I was too young to call him a faggot.

I distinctly remember a moment from sometime around first or second grade. There was this activity we were doing to learn about making nouns plural. The activity had "I like _________!" at the top and you were supposed to make your favorite thing plural by adding an "s" to the end. Being a kid who follows instructions, I wrote Pokemons, but with whatever little kid knowledge I had of the language, I couldn't shake the fact that it looked wrong on the page and I had never heard any of my friends or even the characters in the show ever say Pokemons.

For some reason I read the word "defending" as "defeating" on the Pokemon cards.

Also whenever I got a new card and it told me to flip a coin to decide something I thought I had to do that right away and it affected the card for the rest of time.

I always used to sort GM quasi story telling RPG's with my brother and cousins when I was 6-10. I made up a pokemon knock off where creatures were captured by different little emblems, like a net emblem or a bowl emblem. Like the net one you had to use for bug and forest things, and you would need a honey comb one to capture a powerful bee one.

I used to come up with knock offs to stuff all the time though. I had another one based on armor, but that was more inspired by Digimon.
