Undertale and Earthbound have very different fields, but they're similar in their quirky humor (not quite the same, I know), odd items (ossicles or that item that one mr. Saturn gives in Mother 3 vs residue, like that), great music, quirky enemies, and the fact that the protag is a very young child. There's also a strong sense of home and belonging in all three games. Then there's just straight up allusions like the temmies being saturn analogues and the item boxes. Additionally, the first enemy you fight comes back later (mole cricket and dummy).
