The main factor that would set mega Flygon apart from Garchomp, which it should capitalize on, is speed. Mega Fly' should be a sort of hit 'n' runner.

The first thing you need to do is give it a a better movepool, rocks would be great.

Then you need to fix some of those stats, 100/80/100 just doesnt cut it in todays meta.

Once you finally fix all that release it and get yourself a Garchomp which is better in every way imaginable.

What if we dropped the speed a bit but gave it sand rush, effectively giving it downright superfluous speed while making it stronger and bulkier by proxy since you could run adamant and a bunch of hp EVs?

Speed boost would be an awesome ability to give mega fly. Either that or sand rush would be good, make him essentially a faster, maybe special, garchomp.

I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but they wouldn't give Flygon Sand Rush. The Japanese name is 'Sand Paddle' -- it's referring to that thing you see in fiction where stuff moves through sand as if it's water. Doesn't make sense for an aerial creature.

Right now only Sandslash, Excadrill and Stoutland have it. idk why Hippowdon and Garchomp don't have it, especially since the latter is a sand-shark. Maybe they thought it'd be op. (Like how it doesn't get earthquake by levelup.)

No, it's because it requires too much setup in the first place. Either you're wasting a slot on sandstorm, or you're wasting three turns switching in a setter, then switching in flygon, then mega evolving. And you're fucked without sand. It's too much opportunity cost.

Ability: Levitate

Now it's probably the best Defogger in the game. It can handle itself against Genies since it outspeeds all of them and isn't threatened by Lando-T's Edge/Quake/Knock with Intimidate being useless. Thundurus-I might have HP Ice, but if you're going in for a kill all that would matter is having that T-Wave immunity. Torn-T can't do much since Flygon's speed lets it Roost off Hurricanes.

I'm tempted to change the type so that HP Ice isn't a problem for it, but I feel like it serves as a testament to Flygon sharing the same type as Garchomp and being good without backing off from the typing to be something else. Plus it's a good enough nerf.

Can pack Fire Blast for Skarm. I'm also tempted to give it an -ate Ability but Bugilate seems really bad and Aerilate isn't fitting. Groundilate maybe.

Ability becomes Liftoff. It grants immunity to Ground type attacks and raises speed when a ground attack is used against it, like a Ground Type Motor Drive. Now it has an ability better than Levitate that plays to it strengths.

SpA- 95 (+15)

Spe- 130 (+30)

Special attack got a larger boost because some people insist that Flygon should be a special attacker, so I made its special attack usable. Also lets you go mixed if you really want. You know, run Flamethrower to kill those pesky Ferrothorns etc.

Setting up sand is a lot easier than you think, especially versus rain since you're forced to use Politoed. The main problem is refreshing it after 8 turns, which can be subverted by switching or having a wall carry it.

Fucking kill yourselves. Flygon's line is known for it's extreme high attack early on. Remember Trapinch has 100 base attack. It should capitalize off of that.

Garchomp's top speed is 102, he has no speed boosting moves and his mega is actually slower.

Flygon can easily top that with an extra 100 BST to throw around. Anything faster than 102 would instantly give him a niche over Garchomp.

Tinted lense is bad for flygon. Both of its stabs are dealt with primarily through immunities and otherwise have strong coverage. Tinted lense would help you beat like...whimsicott.

Tinted Lens makes sense from a design standpoint, but most pokes don't resist both Dragon AND Ground, so giving him an ability that messes with resistances makes little sense when he already can hit almost anything with neutral damage.
