I just tried to pick up gen IV and I had the same shit happening in both platinium and HG.

Then I tried gen V for the first time in my life, I just beat the elite 4 for the 1st time. Now I'm not sure if the post game is worth it

This happens with me but only with gen 1. Probably because I've played through FRLG at least three times and went through Kanto in GSC/HGSS.

In Gen IV I got bored of the game at about the third badge, decided to wait it out until the deluxe edition came out. Don't think I ever completed Diamond.

Was gonna do the same with Gen V as well, but well we all know how that turned out.

Trainer battles are filler and take up most of the game. I like the main battles especially since I challenge myself not to grind or use items, but getting to them means hours of boring content. Plus I already know what happens in the games so there's no motivation for the surprise factor. The only thing that can help with that is using a team of mons I've never touched but that only goes so far.

Seriously. Starting with 5th gen, any new titles in Pokemon, whether mainline or one of the spinoffs, has absolutely not kept my attention longer than 15 minutes before I box the game for 2 months. I find myself continually going back to Ruby and earlier for entertainment value.

Not OP, but this happenes to me too and when I was 15 with gen 1, I had 999:00 or the maximum time, yet I still kept playing it.
Now I can't even into gen 1. However I listen to the music pretty often, and still want to go to the pokemon world.
Also sometimes I watch people playig too, but can't get myself to play. I just lost the spark.

I plan out my team before I start a new playthrough, ideally adding one pokemon to the team after each gym leader
I soft reset till I get a starter with a good nature.
After first gym I began to find the second member of my team. It must have a good nature and the better of the two abilities. End up catching like 20 of the same Pokemon and than add the best one into my team

Repeat for every gym. By the time I am to battle the elite 4 my pokemon team is exactly what I had planned and they all are the same level

Play entire game, start breeding Pokemon, feel like killing myself because breeding good Pokemon and cycling in circles is literally worse thing I can ever think of, stop playing Pokemon for a while, buy a bunch of plushes and watch the anime instead.

imo they need to fix the breeding stuff, it shouldnt be fucking complicated to get a decent Pokemon breeding this and breeding that, it's all shit and makes me hate the game.
