We already have existing data for translating pokemon from 1 to 2. 2 to 3 is really the only generation we have issues with, mainly because of transferring between two entirely different devices. The DS was like the Wii, and was able to emulate a connection due to near identical architecture. Really, all we would need is another app like Bank, capable of updating the information on a pokemon to the new standard. There are already fanmade Pokemon generators for emulator and powersave devices, and all you would need is an officially sanctioned version of one of those.
