Hey /vp/,

Has anyone heard of someone soft resetting with the mew event going on and found a shiny mew? I'm willing to put the time in to get one but I'd like prior knowledge it could work. after all, pokemon X and Y disabled shiny Yveltal and Xerneas originally.

Generally, events are either always shiny or never shiny when you pick it up at the pokemon center.

This mew event is no exception to that, so it will never be shiny, no matter how many times you soft reset.

Currently, the only way to actually legitimately obtain a shiny Mew was through the Old Sea Map event in Emerald, since that Mew could actually be soft-reset to be shiny. No other Mew can.

I feel like there was an Arceus event a long time ago that could be shiny. If they were nice they'd leave the Mew as possibility but probably not honestly.

The Arceus event was technically one of those always/never shiny cases as well.

When you redeemed the serial code, the server would randomly pick 1 of 19 wondercards to give to your game. Only one of the 19 wondercards was set to always be shiny. The other 18 were set to never be shiny.

iirc, the only gen 6 event where you could actually soft-reset to get a shiny was the Hiroshima happy hour magikarp.

Eh, there -are- legit shiny mews out there already from an event way back in gen 3. These days, unless you're one of those really REALLY autistic bitches who can't stand clones, I'm sure some kind anon would be willing to toss you a copy. I got one shortly after Bank finally went live, and just about a month ago I posted a list of all the shiny legends I needed that I wouldn't be able to SR for myself in ORAS and someone literally just gave me a fuck ton of clones that he'd made from older gen SR shinies. I got all the birds, Darkrai, Manaphy, Shaymin, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza and Mewtwo. Unless you're dead set on having them be your trainer name and not a clone then I wouldn't worry about this event.

I really wish they'd let the Celebi event be shiny though, considering it's not available as a shiny at all and it'd be kind of nice to finally be able to get one, ya know, two decades after it's creation.

RNG Seed is always 0, which means you always get the same Pokemon if you encounter them at the same time.
For example, in R/S or FR/LG seed is always chosen at random. So if you encounter let's say 2 Pokemon after 2 minutes and 14 seconds after starting the game, they will have different PIDs, and as such different ivs, nature, ability and chance to be shiny.
But in Emerald this doesn't happen, so the Pokemon you encounter at 2:14 will always be the same one. So you can easily end up with 2 or more different Pokemon species with the exact same PID.

Only Faraway Island and 10ANIV Mew can be shiny. However, Old Sea Chart has only been distributed once or twice in Japan and good fucking luck finding anyone with a 10ANIV Mew, much less shiny.

Wondercard events can be never-shiny, always-shiny or may-be-shiny (this one since BW). All Mew distributions since DPPt are in the never-shiny group.

10th anni Mew isn't Shiny. I can confirm because the Toys R Us I went to was so empty that the dude distributing them literally let me get boxfulls of Mew and let me pick any Mew from the cart. The way it was distributed was a Toys R Us employee had a modified game cart that had all boxes filled with Mew and you had to trade a shitmon for it.

Just so that you know for future events, any event that comes with a preimposted Original Trainer can never be shiny, unless the distribution is meant to be ALWAYS shiny. You can soft reset all the time you want, that mew will always have the same ID and SID and will always come from a "trainer" named GF, it would be like expecting a pokémon to become shiny when it gets traded to you.
The only mew that CAN be shiny is the one obtained through Old Sea Map in Japanese Emerald.

No it's very easy, I rng'd Kyogre, Rayquaza, Beldum and Mudkip on emerald. Takes a few tries to get the exact second right, but it's no sweat.

Got shiny Mew off GTS years ago during Gen 4.

Had the same info as a lvl 10 MYSTRY Mew. Either it was a legit Mew with a shiny cheat used on it or a straight up hack.

You can also use an emulator if you wanted, as long as you had a way to export the mew file from the ROM and import it into a cart.

You have save states and frame-by-frame advancing to basically guarantee that you can't fuck it up, since there are scripts that can display your current frame on-screen. Plus you can let the game run in turbo mode for a bit if you want to hit really high frame numbers.

You can only get it shiny in the faraway island event ticket in Japan 2005. And you couldn't SR for it since emerald's rng was broken. So you had to run away from it and go back to it.

There are premade lua scripts that you can run in the emulator that show the current frame, as well the stats of any pokemon you are fighting.

It makes RNG abuse incredibly simple in emulated gen 3 games, since you immediately know if you didn't hit the right frame when triggering the encounter.

Bullshit. ProjectPokemon has all 420 Toys R Us Mews, and confirmed that there was no legit TRU shiny. To further the point, I also have a Mew distro cart with Box 4 - 14 still full, and can confirm none are shiny.
