Something to do with the energies that pokemon generate to use their moves.

Though just to be clear, Mewtwo and Genesect were used with previously living matter rather than from code or special clay.

man just looking at this thing reminds me of how much I hate practically every single pokemon made in the past three years. Bergmite and Avalugg are cool but they're more or less useless and everything else looks like some bootleg neopets knockoff more than something that would look in place with any of the earlier pokemons. I used to think D/P had shit pokemon but even those look like they belong more than this mangina shit or that disgusting mega zygarde abomination

What is Magiana isn't a Pokemon you battle with but is more of a game mechanic? She joins you on your quest and helps by carrying Pokeballs and has her own character. She could replace the outdated PC system by letting you trade out Pokemon wherever you want, eliminating the need for HM slaves.
Maybe they didn't want to reveal her type because she doesn't have one - she's not for battling?
I would prefer that over some stupid legendary I have to go download at McDonalds.
It will never happen but I like that idea.

There are two known ways.

The first is to modify a preexisting Pokemon. Mewtwo was made by poking and prodding a Mew's DNA, while Genesect's body was converted into a cyborg. This process could be considered the unholy spawn of form changing and evolution.

The second is to take a normal substance or item and infuse it with the raw lifeforce of Pokemon, creating an entirely new being. Machinery, data, and clay are all viable vessels. Probably an artificial version of how Grimer, Voltorb, and most object-based Ghost and Psychic types appear.
