for the better, games are meant to evolve, MD games are stuck in 1986 when the hardware was too limited to handle complex coding

As someone who liked roguelikes before playing Mystery Dungeon, the genre as a whole always had this appeal to it, even though it is turn-based.

Hell, even though most Roguelikes are still text-based, they are actually really fun to play because of how the game mechanics work. If you add graphics, you get something that is absolutely fantastic.

tl;dr - The games stand on their mechanics, not their graphics.

If its a true devamp sure. but what you show there isnt a devamp at all, its a poor spriters render of it. Pokemon didnt look like that in gen 1. If you're gonna do it, go for broke and do it right.

It's not really supposed to be any pokemon in particular, it was used to represent grass type pokemon in gen1. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think gen2 used that particular sprite at all.

The only Shiren games that have been translated are the first one for the SNES, the third one for the Wii (and PSP) and the remake of the first one on the DS. Also this game has a Windows remake that was later ported to Android.
If you want to go through the game, you already know the mechanics, you don't mind not understanding what people tell you and you use Google Translate a bit, I think it can be playable.

The second GB game has a DS remake, which I think someone made a menu translation of.

Make primary colour show type 1, secondary show type 2, toss in a few more icons as fitting 151 into 11 icons with colour variation will suck horribly, especially with all the grass/poison types

i would play mystery dungeon if 1. the staircases were on walls or something more organic that doesn't remind me that the level is randomised 2. less handholding at the start 3. a plot that is based on pokemon being wild animals and having tenuous associations with other species but good ones with their own. this means that items should be replaced with varied sources of food that are more or less effective depending on the pokemon. at the risk of sounding edgy, i think it would be interesting if carnivorous pokemon could eat defeated enemies, or party members should they be close to death.

I'd play the shit out of a pmd game with gen2 graphic, but like >>25235092 said these are only the front. Probably meant to be viewed in the party, not specifically the overworld. Did gen2 even have side/back views for pokemon in the overworld, other than special cases?

Nope, only ones that need to move or turn like the generic bird sprite and a couple others have four directional sprites. Shit like Slowpoke always faces forward, and if you see the sprites in that pic in the overworld (like if you put them into the Daycare) they'll only face forward similarly.
