>>25218241My headcanon is that all small invertebrates (worms, insects, plankton etc.) and bacterias exist in Pokemon world because ecosystem just wouldn't work without them. They also work as food for most pokemon. Maybe normal fish exist as well. Meanwhile, most more complex animals (reptiles, birds, mammals) are completely replaced by Pokemon.
