Something just occured to me, what if those two idiots were the main characters in Z ? Probably as a prequel before they became Sycamore's assistants (or whatever their job was).

I mean, they were so pointless in X and Y, didn't even get an official artwork or a single battle, and yet we saw them really often, playing superheroes and stuff.
It would actually make sense if those were just setting up their characters.
