>>25228457I just think Galvantula really contrasts strongly with Magcargo and Camerupt in terms of concept and execution. Camerupt is a camel who is also a volcano, his typing comes from him being a combination of two things. Same with Magcargo, he's a snail, but they take advantage of a snail's anatomy and appearance to make a snail made from lava with a hardened magma shell.
Galvantula is just a spider that's arbitrarily combined with electricity. It's a spider, and the electrical elements of its design begin and end with it being yellow. If it were a firefly or lightning bug, or if an effort had been made to make a logical connection to electricity like spiderwebs being electrical wires and/or circuits I could understand, but none of that is present. Galvantula could be sky blue or white instead of yellow, and that's all it would take for it to be ice/bug instead. A lot of pokemon fall into this trap in my opinion. Rapidash and Ponyta could've just as easily had a mane of thunder or crystals and been electric or ice. A lot of pokemon are X animal combined with X thing, and the two need to have some sort of connection or link in my opinion. Magcargo and Camerupt's types feel much less arbitrary. Empoleon is another good example, it being part steel and having a trident/crown because it's based on an emperor penguin.
