They teach basic color theory in elementary school Art classes, just like they teach you how to paint using water color.

I know this because I had it in school back in the 90s. Do you not remember that shit in school? Pretty much every single person I've known throughout life and I've lived several places has been taught basic stuff like that in art classes in elementary school.

Hell I even know Canadians that learned that shit in 2nd-3rd grade.

Well, some of them look more consistent. Golduck got a round skull on its head, and the weight of its body falls on the lower parts. Sprites evolved similarly. Charizard's sprite in gen IV and V had better anatomy than original chrizard.

Yes. The current style is more consistent.
The first two morphed in the same Gen, while the current has remained uniform since Gen 2 at least when it comes to pokémon art. I admit nostalgia when I see characters from the previous styles, but consistency in portrayal is more important to me.
