This is the reason why we won't have gen 1 re-remakes. They'd have to fix the entire Dex, meaning Chikorita would become #184 instead of #152. And GF doesn't want to do that because of tradition.

What? That doesn't make sense. Why would Chikorita have to be #184? If it's a Kanto remake, Chikorita wouldn't be available until the National dex, which would make adding shit to the dex irrelevant.

And anyways, who fucking cares if Chikorita is #184? Let's not act like re-arranging it is a big deal. Just make a new dex called "Modern dex" with all the evolution lines together, and rename "national" to "classic".

Your second paragraph is a good idea. And about Chikorita being #184, the Kanto Dex is literally a watered down version of the National Dex. They have the exact same numbers. And re-arranging the Dex would mean Pichu became #025, Pikachu #026 and so forth until #183 Mew. I'd love it if GF rearranged the National Dex like that.

In FRLG, you couldn't evolve Golbat into Crobat until you received the National Dex. So every time Golbat gained a level, it would go into the evolution screen and nothing would happen.

In the newer games, they let you bring in pokemon using Bank even if your game dosen't have the national dex yet, so this might not be a problem anymore

In FR/LG, all of the Gen 2 evolutions were locked until you got the National Dex. It was impossible to access them. So if your Golbat or Chansey reached a high enough friendship level to evolve, each time they leveled up they would start to evolve but then the evolution would automatically stop. This was obviously done to restrict the main game to only the original 151, but if you wanted to Crobat or Blissey you were out of luck.

They fixed it by the next remakes.
In HGSS, the gen III pre-evos and gen IV (pre-)evos were added to the Johto dex.
So you could get Mamoswine, Yanmega, Mantyke, Togekiss and shit.

In HGSS, only 5 Pokémon were added to the Johto Dex: Tangrowth, Mamoswine, Ambipom, Yanmega and Lickylicky, because they all evolve by leveling up when the pre-evolution knows a certain move.

Azurill, Wynaut, and all the other Gen 4 evolutions/pre-evolutions were NOT added to the Johto Dex

To be fair, they added the evolutions that needed to be added. You got the National Dex after the Elite Four, and you couldn't get any of the items needed for the new evolutions before that point anyway. It was a smart move on their end.
