I've heard just using the Dexnav in general makes it more likely, and chaining doesn't do anything.

So, /vp/ does Dexnav do anything for shiny hunting or is this all bullshit?

Chaining doesn't work, HOWEVER using Dexnav at all will raise the shiny chance to the same rate as in the X/Y Friend Safaris.

Shiny Charm doesn't stack with the Friend Safari, so probably not. Still, it's a higher chance than MMing and you can rack up some cool shit with a high encounter number.
