It wasn't that hard since I have a ton of games from Gen 3 to Gen 6. Not all, but enough to get most in-game Pokemon. I had to trade for some version exclusives though.
I'm working on completing the dex on my Pokemon Red file too. At the moment, I have 147/151. I'm just missing the trade evolutions.
It was pretty worth it for me since I always wanted to complete the dex as a kid and 720 is a bretty big number that takes devotion to achieve (that and willingness to go outside anyway)
