I want to know if the save file from this eshop version would be future proof, i.e. when the next gen nintendo handheld comes out, would I be able to keep my progress on it?

I am getting Red because I think Yellow sprites are ugly. I know it is not a popular opinion, though.

For people who say they have the original game: it is cool to play it with a backlit screen.

For people who say they can emulate it on their phone: it is cool to play it with buttons.

If you can play it on a backlit screen using buttons in a portable device, then maybe you have no reason to buy them and it is ok.

I'm not getting them for the same reason. With only one 3DS and nobody to trade with over local wireless, we can't get the version exclusives, get both fossils, get all starters, get trade evolutions. Overall we can't complete the pokedex.

If we could trade via wi-fi I would get Blue.

That's...precisely the reason why I'm not getting RBY on the 3DS - I have no friends, I don't have a second 3DS system, my older sister has a life, my younger brother doesn't seem to want a 3DS and it'd be pointless to get my younger sister a 3DS if she's only going to use it for about a month and then forget about it altogether.

I'm probably going to get all three Not an idort, CFW 3DS and use R/B as my glitching/cheating games with Yellow as my playthrough/fight-me-faggot cart. Hopefully they're be a safe editor or some other homebrew magic that I can abuse.

I'll be using this instead of an emulator since it's what all the people I know with 3DS are going to do. I did emulate on my phone in the past, and it was decent for Gen1-3, but playing a DS game was fucking painful without hardware buttons and the tiny screen.

So was gen 6, and it still made Nintendo a bunch of money. It makes perfect sense from a business perspective, since the vast majority of people haven't seen a release focusing on Kanto since like 2004 with FR/LG. This is the exact same thing as FR/LG but with even less effort involved, since they just needed to hack together the code to make links work wirelessly, and that's probably trivially easy compared to actually remaking them in the modern engine. I will agree with you if they end up remaking Kanto yet again any time in the next few years in Gen 6/7.

I could see them fixing the Cinnabar Island glitch. Several EU releases fixed it. Considering they never bothered with link cable emulation in all the other virtual console games and are giving out a mew at least in Japanese games they had to change something. Normally they take the time to disable any link cable function so that it's not even mentioned by characters that would go "hey you need a link cable"

Same. Local wireless is all well and good in the schoolyard, but this is a game that is ONLY going to appeal to the original fans. Wifi battles and trades are pretty much a necessity.

Everything is exactly the same, except for the wireless trading and battling.

Red because I already own original Blue and Yellow.

There's one thing thou that took my sleep this days: Yellow is pretty much confirmed being in color (Super GameBoy palette from the trailers), but what about Red and Blue? Will they have the possibility to switch between b/w - b/green - SGB palettes pressing L+R+Y? Or wiil they be limited to b/w and b/green? Will they get the GBC special palettes (Dpad, Dpad+A, Dpad+B)?
