Why do people think Gen II is completely outdated? I find Gold very playable, even if it doesn't have natures and PHYSICAL/SPECIAL split and to be honest I never bothered with the natures in gen 3 and 4 so I think in a way that it was easier to tell if a move was PHY/SPE by typing alone.

Abilities are probably just as important as the phys/spec split.

Game was mostly different,
Trying to judge the movepools when 90% were shitty means it had a very different context for their pokemon to do battle.
Crystal was still the game I pumped most hours into the single player.
Also Pokemon Coliseum 2 was my most played n64 game by far.

It doesn't. It only affects competitive play. In-game it doesn't matter the same way natures and EVs don't.

if you want modern mechanics go play showdown. But the old games are still good for exploring the region.

the lack of physical / special split perhaps bothers me with both gen 2 and gen 3 games now, but nothing is painful as those old gen level up movepools and one use tms and breeding rules

as far as best to worst in the gens are concerned, gen 2 is by far the best and most replay-able

Horrible level pacing.
Ive been grinding the E4 for a few days now trying to get Tryanitar, not having Speed up unlocked on Stadium 2 is suffering.

And a lot of the cool new Pokémon are left to rot in a single route, with not ingame trainers using them, or worse, stuck in some corner of Kanto meaning you can't use them until you've completed 90% of the game.

Still love the games, Am playing Crystal right now but Gen II has issues.

I actually misunderstoood whats physical or special for a long time, like i assumed bite was physical back in gen 2, cause duh of course it is.

When someone said gen 4 introduced the split i felt so stupid cause i had no idea it was actually divided by type.

No, I had it right the first time.

Plus Crystal's ROMhacking scene is way more advanceded then HGSS's. And plus, HGSS fucked up with Sneasel as you can't get it until Mt. Silver, just like with Gold and Silver.
