Hard to believe, but this Articuno was really good when it was printed. No weakness, resistant to Hitmonchan (Hitmonchan was fucking everywhere), 70 HP on a basic (most basics had between 40 and 60 HP), and back then 3 energy for 30 damage with an effect was average.

No because you can make the old cards useless just by rotating them out of tournament rules.

They "powercreeped" because it added variety and depth. For example, HP varied between 30HP and 120HP back then, and now it's what, 30~210? Makes room for niches. You now have basics ranging from 30HP and 90HP , as for back then they were always 30HP, 40HP, 50HP or 60HP
