what was bad about Bw was not the fact that it forced you to use new pokemon but rather the fact thatalot of the new pokemon were shitmons, and the actual good ones often could not be caught until the later segments in the game, it also felt linear.
Bw2 however had the hindsight of thi and actually fixed Bw issues, it added more mons to the dex and fixed the parts of Bw that was clunky, the story was a downgrade however.
