The old remakes are outdated now

That being said, it definitely is better to focus on new projects than remakes because you don't have to pigeonhole yourself into reusing content based on a prior game and can work your way up. Remakes are kind of the lazy way out, especially with how shit Kanto is despite the fact people will still buy it

Final Fantasy does the same thing. FF4 has been remade for SNES, PS1, WonderSwan Color, GBA, NDS, PSP, iOS, Android, and PC, with some of those having multiple releases because it has an easy version and a hard version.

That is more acceptable because they went multiplat and that game isn't connected to other games via trade. This would just suck time and resources for something not really worth a full price 3DS game at this point if they wuss out and don't even include a day/night cycle or some crossgen evos before the E4.
