>>25292994Johto is an extremely cramped region especially in the original game an it shows to top it off it reused many of the assets of the previous games showing an extreme lack of creativity.
Sinnoh, well that had some interesting concepts but they made the game extremely tedious to play through even in Platium. The snow area being much more of an issue than the water in Hoenn because it slows progress to a crawl whereas in those games the water doesn't impede your movements and the encounters can be circumvented through the use of repels which makes traversing the water areas one of the quickest parts of the game.
Unova, despite being extremely linear was one of the more aesthetically "comfy" regions due to the season mechanics and the difference in town design. Then there's the fact that it removed the HM reliance that people disliked so the main game could be played without wasting a slot on it. Of course they were necessary for exploration but that's an adequate compromise for them being entirely optional.
Hoenn, yes there's a lot of water which I've addressed in previous points but the rest of the region is fairly diverse and captures the feeling of adventure not much I can say beyond that. The region was very much the "It was okay region".
Kalos was Unova 2.0 in more ways than one since each town was diverse and gave a distinct and different feeling but it was again extremely linear. The only use of a HM in the main story that I can recall was Surf there was also a distinct lack of exploration in the game.
Finally Kanto. Saying Kanto hasn't aged well would be an understatement and it becomes much more evident in the remake there's more to explore in Kanto over regions like Kalos and Johto but every route and town looks the same with the only difference being the number of buildings in the area.
To sum it up my opinion would be
Unova > Hoenn > Kalos > Sinnoh > Johto > Kanto
