I need to beat the elite four for that guy to move from mewtwos cave BUT when I beat them it just shows credits and newgame

what team do you use for elite four?

I think its an old game file for the game, I remember playing a defective one that did t saved and the only way to go through was with file states.

I think thas what you can do is extract the save file ".gba" or something and load through another game file, to check if Im right.

Savestates are no good for E4, you need to set VBA to 128kb save types before you start a new game or you're screwed

Either you are using a bootlegged cartridge or an emulator that doesn't like saving/resetting such that the game resets when you beat the E4, or you didn't actually mean new game. Anyway to get to the postgame content, you need to have at least 60 Pokémon caught on your PokéDex.
