Imagine a Pokemon Game like this:
>Objects in the overworld can be battled (e.g. a fire that has to be putout triggers a battle between your pokemon and a literal fire)
>you have to defeat it to pass
>they would fight back in contrived ways, like the fire would rage on and embers would scorch your pokemon, or your attack would dislodge something from the tree and it would fall on your pokemon, or a geodude would appear from behind the boulder you're trying to break and join the fight against you, etc
>Moves like Cut would instantly defeat trees, Rock Smash for Boulders, etc
>Fly, Surf and Dive get replaced by Key Items that enable Soaring (e.g. a bird whistle or something), Surfing (e.g. a wetsuit or a lifevest) and diving (e.g. oxygen tank)
>Strength puzzles would just be abolished since in Gen 5 and 6 they aren't even difficult anymore, you would just replace them with mazes

To expand on this, you would battle an evil team that freely uses non-pokemon robots and machines in their plans that you would have to defeat. For example, if the evil team is using a legendary to power a doomsday machine, you would have to destroy the machine with your pokemon. You could be assisted by the legendary (i.e. Multi battle). Maybe its stats and HP are lowered because it hasn't recovered yet or something.

Since they aren't pokemon they wouldn't follow the rules of Pokemon, so they can have absurd stats or more than four moves, explicitly to make the game harder on the player.
