In gen 1 they occasionally portrayed it with sharp teeth and a fierce attitude, because no one gave a shit back then they just wanted to battle with monsters.
Fast forward to today, most of the fan art for mega Lapras covers it in giant spikes of ice, or sharpen and elongate the horn on its head, completely missing the point of what the pokémon's supposed to be.
